Improvisation for Public Safety Professionals
Firefighters, emergency medical service providers, law enforcement officers, emergency managers, 9-1-1 telecommunicators, and anyone else who works in the emergency services rely on strong, collaborative relationships to be successful in dynamic, often unknown environments. This workshop introduces the skills improvisational theater performers use to work together on stage and encourages participants to apply these skill to their work, help overcome barriers to collaboration and achieve positive outcomes during emergencies and disasters.

Instructor: Andrew Phelps

Andrew holds a Master of Arts from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he studied the application of improvisational theater techniques to addressing challenges in homeland security and emergency management. This area of study led to the creation of a series of workshops titled “Play Well With Others: Improvisational Theater for Homeland Security”, which has been delivered to public safety professionals across the country.
